I work with paper and with processes. How something is made, for me, is as important as what it looks like. My art exists not merely in the final product, but in the act of its making. The steps of the process are an evolving ritual, revealing ideas and insights as I work. In my current work I've been drawing with knives, bleach, acid and fire; materials that transform, remove or destroy. I often call what I do drawing, in order to have a simple handle for carrying it around, mentally and verbally. My works tend to float in the fuzzy areas between specifics, between drawing and printmaking and performance and sculpture. I'm seeking to merge process, image and content in a seamless integrity of materials and methods, a unified field theory of self.
